Do exercises for patellofemoral pain reflect common injury mechanisms? A systematic review
نویسندگان
چکیده
Objectives Current best evidence has reported that therapeutic exercise programs are designed to treat patellofemoral pain (PFP) should include both hip and knee specific exercises. The purpose of this review was (1) examine the quality/comprehensiveness reporting in field; (2) quantify extent which individual exercises comprised task-specific elements (single limb stance; eccentric control hip; rotational z-axis control) most likely address key pathomechanics associated with PFP. Design Systematic review: a systematic survey RCTs. Methods PubMed, CINAHL, Medline, Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) SPORT Discus databases were searched for randomized controlled trials addressed PFP utilizing proximal focused rehabilitation paradigm. evaluated, each extracted analysis. Quality assessments included PEDro Scale Consensus on Exercise Reporting Template (CERT) utilized score interventions. Results 19 studies final 178 total from programs. analyzed inclusion align underlying biomechanical mechanisms. Conclusions vast majority sagittal plane, concentric, non-weight bearing exercises, whereas multiplanar single weightbearing, where loading directed around longitudinal z-axis, considerably under-represented. utilize simplistic frameworks lack progression into more task exercise, not reflective complex injury etiology.

Distal Approaches in Patellofemoral Pain: A Systematic Review, Part I
Purpose: Increased patellofemoral joint reaction force (PFJRF) is the main cause of patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFP). Foot pronation causes faulty joint coupling of the lower limb and increases the PFJRF. Therefore, the aim of systematic review is effect of the distal interventions on the clinical symptoms and kinematic of PFP patients. Methods: The search strategy was carried out from Goo...

Purpose: Higher loading rates have been associated with injuries, plantar fasciitis, tibia bone stress injuries, knee osteoarthritis and PFP. The aim of this study is the evaluation of loading rate in PFP patients compared to healthy individuals during weight bearing tasks. Methods: Search strategy was conducted in databases: Science Direct, Scopus, PubMed and Google Scholar. The outcome measu...
متن کاملA systematic review of physical interventions for patellofemoral pain syndrome.
OBJECTIVE Physical interventions (nonpharmacological and nonsurgical) are the mainstay of treatment for patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS). Physiotherapy is the most common of all physical interventions and includes specific vastus medialis obliquus or general quadriceps strengthening and/or realignment procedures (tape, brace, stretching). These treatments appear to be based on sound theoreti...
متن کاملStabilisation exercises for low back pain: a systematic review
Objectives To examine the literature to determine if stabilisation exercises are effective for the treatment of pain and dysfunction in patients with low back pain. Data sources PubMed (MEDLINE), CINAHL, AMED, PEDro and the Cochrane Library were searched up to October 2006. Review methods Inclusion criteria were: randomised clinical trials; in English; full publications; subjects were adults wi...
متن کاملThe psychological features of patellofemoral pain: a systematic review.
BACKGROUND Patellofemoral pain (PFP) is prevalent in adolescence and adulthood and often persists. In contrast to other persistent musculoskeletal conditions, for which non-physical, psychological features are implicated, PFP remains largely conceptualised in mechanical terms. AIMS To (1) identify whether the psychological characteristics of individuals with PFP differs from asymptomatic cont...
